Gardening combines all three elements of a good fitness program. Weight-bearing work like pushing a wheelbarrow or moving heavy pots and shrubs strengthens bones. Weeding and seeding will keep your joints flexible and maintain muscle tone, especially in your back. Raking, mowing, and spreading soil at a fast clip get your heart pumping.

Appalachian Alliance

The following is one person’s perspective for capitalizing on uniqueness…

Where have you traveled recently? Where are you planning to travel in the near future? Why do you choose to travel where you do? Many opportunities are available within our own region, if we only took the time to explore them.

Then again, that brings up another question. Is our region promoted locally? Do we talk about our region with other people? We, as citizens of communities within the Appalachian Region, have an opportunity to capitalize upon our uniqueness.
