FINALS

by Communications Intern Sharniece Wallace

Everybody knows just how hectic final exam time can be. I am here to give you some tips that just might make things a little easier. Each semester around this time you’ll see students pacing back and forth, stressing out, and staying up late. For some, this is the first hard studying they have done. But this time around all of that can change. This semester‘s finals started Monday, May 11th and run through Thursday, May 14th. Here are some tips that might help you along the way:

·         Make sure you try to get any late work that you have turned in to teachers before you start taking finals. Some teachers give students until the last minute to get any possible points needed. So try and take full advantage of this opportunity.

·         Form study groups together and help each other. These can be made up of friends or students in class. There are also many opportunities around campus to help students with final preparation. An example is Student Support Services…Just remember to ask for the help you need.

·         If you are studying for long periods of time take frequent breaks so you won’t get overwhelmed.

·         To minimize distractions and study a little better, turn off the television, radio, and videogames, don’t answer your phone and focus just on studying. Quiet places help you focus better and let your mind retain more material.

·         Before you take the test make sure you get the right amount of sleep and eat a well balanced breakfast. Sleep will help you relax and the food will give your brain needed energy for the test.

·         Budget your time. Make sure to give yourself enough time to study so you are well prepared for the test.

·         Ask teachers questions about specific material that could be on the test. Then spend more time studying that material.

·         Arrive early for your finals.

·         During the test go through and answer all of the questions you know first. That will give you more time to focus on the harder ones.

·         Be comfortable, but alert during the test. Stay relaxed and confident.

If you follow these steps you will do well on your test. Just relax, take a deep breath and remember -----  YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
