The Office of Agricultural and Natural Resources is committed to providing research-based educational programs and technical assistance to farmers, commodity groups, agribusiness, and to providing horticultural and pest management assistance to the broader citizenship of West Virginia. Current Agricultural and Natural Resources initiatives include animal health and nutrition programs, youth livestock education, Junior Master Gardener, and Urban Forestry.

The mission of the JMG program is "to grow good kids through igniting a passion for learning, success, and service." The program engages children in "hands-on" learning experiences that promote a love of gardening, develop an appreciation for the environment, and cultivate the mind. 
Since 1988, this program has helped advance farming systems that are profitable, environmentally sound, and good for communities through a nationwide research and education grants program. 
MANRRS is a national society that promotes the involvement of minorities in agriculture and related sciences, and is made up of a national office with chapters established at various colleges and universities throughout the United States. 
Community Gardens are sites used for growing plants for food, fiber, herbs and flowers, which are shared and maintained by nearby residents.
