Connecting people through communications technology for Education, Research, Development, Outreach, and Business.
The Educational Technology Center has been the leader in distance learning throughout West Virginia since 1986. We recognize the need to disseminate information efficiently and here you have several choices to accomplish your goals. The Educational Technology Center uses a variety of technologies to provide our clients the flexibility needed in today’s budget conscious and high-tech environment.
Distance Learning Delivery Systems
Learning is no longer confined to face-to-face with an instructor armed with a textbook. It’s no longer the sole educational resource. In today’s Information Age educational resources are everywhere, often separated from learners by only time and space. The term distance learning describes the process of connecting the learner to these remote resources. West Virginia State University uses a variety of delivery systems to connect students and instructors.
Satellite Uplinking
The Educational Technology Center operates the only C-band satellite uplink in West Virginia with dual transmitters. Satellite offers a wide coverage area for live interactive programming. Our satellite foot print covers all lower 48 states. Many national media outlets - i.e. CN, Fox News, Bloomberg TV - utilize the services of the Educational Technology Center for live on-camera interviews called backhauls. Other uses for satellite are: teleconferences, delivery of WV Lottery nightly drawing, statewide training and continuing education.
Telephone Conferencing
The sharing of information is essential but sometimes a face-to-face meeting isn't necessary. When that’s the case our 72 line telephone bridge may best fit your needs. Everyone participating in the conference will call a toll free number and enter their conference specific 4 digit pass code. This service can be scheduled easily by calling the Educational Technology Center. You will only be charged for the minutes you use with no hidden costs or set-up fees.
Two-Way Video Presentations
This service is for conducting a face to face meeting or making a presentation to a limited number of locations with interactivity. This is lower resolution than full motion video but allows all sites to take part simultaneously.
Video Streaming & Webcasting
We offer this if you need to reach a larger number of sites. This is an internet based delivery to desktop computers. It can be watched live or viewed at a later time. Originating from an Educational Technology Center studio this can allow you up to 200 streams simultaneously.
Video Production
Professionally produced field or studio productions and non-linear editing capabilities. (2 studios) Your finished product with music and graphics can be mastered on a variety of formats, i.e.: tape, DVD, CD, or digitally encoded for streaming.
