The Summer Transportation Institute (STI) is a two week residential/day program that introduces students to the transportation industry. Since one in seven jobs in the United States is in the transportation sector, a career in transportation is worth considering. The STI offers participants the opportunity to explore the career choices available in transportation and to engage in a wide range of activities that are both educational and enjoyable.

Who Is Eligible?
Students who enjoy and excel in science and math courses will be strong candidates for the STI. In exchange for your willingness to learn and grow, we can provide you with a better sense of direction for the future. If you are interested in applying, see if you meet the guidelines below.
- Entering 8th, 9th, rr 10th grade middle/high school students
- 2.5 GPA or higher
- Eligible for pre-algebra class
- Female and minority students are encouraged to apply
- Strong interest in technological innovations that affect the transportation history

- Transportation of people and cargo
- Laws, Regulations and Safety
- Environmentalism
- Career opportunities
- Computer training
- Academic enhancement activities
- Field trips and student projects
- Highway Design
- On-Campus educational and recreational activities
Program Activities
- Field trips to fascinating transportation related sites, such as the Toyota Plant in Kentucky
- Projects that promote hands-on learning and team work
- Guest speakers who will discuss their work and field questions from students
- Numerous on campus educational and recreational activities
