Description
West Virginia State University EPSCoR is responsible for the development, administration, management, and implementation of the University's experimental research improvement program. In order to provide research opportunities, WVSU EPSCoR must emulate the mission of West Virginia EPSCoR, which is to build "research competitiveness" within institutions, individual researchers, research teams, and collaborations between institutions throughout the state. Research competitiveness is achieved when faculty obtain peer recognition in their field and gain direct entry into mainstream research funding. WV EPSCoR accomplishes this mission by supporting new or existing faculty positions, equipment, laboratories and research ideas for limited periods of time.
Focus
WVSU EPSCoR recognizes those students who have chosen to major in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields of research. All mainstream and interdisciplinary science programs recognized by NSF are eligible to participate in EPSCoR. WVSU EPSCoR’s focus is to develop, manage and provide grant opportunities so that WVSU STEM students will gain experience in research. WVSU EPSCoR will partner with other institutions, such as Marshall and West Virginia University, to create research opportunities for STEM students.
